Always put the
heaviest bike closest to the vehicle, and the lightest
bikes furthest away from the vehicle.
Torque=force*distance.
To minimize this, put the heaviest bikes on the
inside.

2008 Dogwood Trail
The "official" Dogwood Trail Ride
was held April 13, 2008 in spite of nasty weather.
The yellow directional arrows are still painted on the
pavement. A cue sheet sheet with directions can be
printed
here
and if you drive in, you're welcome to
leave your car at BikeWorld and
enjoy the blooms.

Our trip to Washington to the
2008 National Bike Summit was energizing and
educational. Jason Reser,
far left in photo,
from Reser Bicycle Outfitters
in Newport was the only other KY bicycle
dealer, but
several other KY bike advocates were in
attendance
and when we went to Capitol Hill we were able to
visit with someone from every KY congressional
office. We were graciously received.
Let's face, in theory, who doesn't support safe
places to bike? Doing something to make it happen
is another story, but, at least we had the
opportunity to bring the issue to the front for a
few minutes. We're excited about KY
Representative Ed Whitfield's promise to join the
Bike Caucus!
Congressional Bike Caucus
The outstanding keynote
speaker was Humana Healthcare Chairman, David
Jones, from Louisville. He totally
understands how important it is to get people
moving and how bicycles can help make that happen.
He unveiled the bike-share program Humana launched
last August in Louisville which allows employees
to sign-up to use one of 35 free bikes
during their lunch hour, for errands or to commute
to work. The program is such a success the company
will be adding another 100 bikes this spring, and
they have already fielded calls from over 90 other
businesses interested in establishing similar
programs.
Another exciting program program, and one I
want to work to see implemented in Paducah is the
"Bicycle
Friendly City" as set forth by the League of
American Bicyclists. Louisville, Lexington,
Bowling Green and maybe other KY cities are
already working to earn this designation.
One of my goals for 2008 is to have Paducah
do the same!
